What is Optical Pill Verification (OPV)?
Real-Time Pill Analysis, Built Into Your Workflow
Optical Pill Verification uses advanced software on the Eyecon 9430™ to examine every pill during the fill. If something doesn’t match, whether it be size, shape, color, or printed markings, the person filling the prescription can immediately review the discrepancy.
Override capabilities can also be configured within settings, allowing pharmacies to manage when overrides are permitted while maintaining visibility into override activity.
It works alongside your existing count process, not in place of it.
Instant Visual Insight on Each Dispense
Size & Shape: Identifies pills that fall outside the expected parameters for the drug being dispensed.
Color Analysis: Detects color variations that may indicate a wrong drug, a damaged pill, or a return-to-stock mix-up.
Printed Markings: Compares printed imprint codes to help confirm the correct medication. (Note: applies mainly to printed markings)
Funnel Detection: Flags pills remaining in the funnel, so they aren’t accidentally mixed into the next fill.

Going Beyond What Looks “Close Enough”
Standard pill counting technology identifies discrepancies based primarily on size and shape. OPV adds color analysis and printed marking recognition to that process, helping catch look-alike drug errors and other subtle mismatches that might otherwise go undetected.
This is particularly relevant in situations like return-to-stock dispensing, where visually similar pills from different drugs may be handled in close proximity.
